🔒 Zero-Knowledge Privacy Architecture

Privacy Policy & Legal Terms

Universal Code Studio is engineered from the ground up as a 100% client-side application. We do not transmit, log, monitor, or store your barcode payloads, Wi-Fi credentials, contact cards, or custom images on any server.

Effective Date: September 14, 2026
Compliance Posture: DPDP Act 2023 (India), GDPR (EU), UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA (California), COPPA
Architecture: Zero-Data Collection (Local In-Memory Browser Execution)
01

Zero-Data Retention Architecture

Traditional web generators require you to upload your sensitive payloads—such as private Wi-Fi passwords, contact card vCards, cryptocurrency addresses, or proprietary inventory SKUs—to a remote server where barcodes are rendered and returned as images. This architecture poses serious confidentiality and regulatory risks.

Universal Code Studio operates on a strictly client-side paradigm. Every barcode algorithm, checksum computation (GS1 Modulo 10, Luhn Modulo 10, Code 128 Modulo 103), QR styling engine, and vector SVG/PDF exporter executes exclusively inside your device's web browser memory (RAM) using pure JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas.

🛡️ Zero Server-Side Transmission
Your keystrokes, URLs, credentials, and uploaded logo files are never transmitted to our web servers or any cloud database.
Ephemeral Browser Memory
When you close or refresh your browser tab, all entered payloads and generated graphics are instantly purged from your device memory.
02

  • Personalized Advertising: In jurisdictions where you have granted consent, Google may use cookies to serve ads tailored to your browsing interests.
  • Non-Personalized Advertising: If you decline advertising cookies or visit from a jurisdiction with strict default opt-out requirements, Google serves non-personalized contextual ads based solely on page content and coarse geographical location.

India: Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) & IT Act

For visitors, businesses, and developers residing in India, Universal Code Studio operates in strict compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act 2023) and the Information Technology Act, 2000 (including the Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information Rules, 2011):

🇮🇳 Data Principal Protections
Under the DPDP Act 2023, you are the Data Principal. Because all barcode payloads are processed strictly inside your device's browser RAM, no personal data is collected or retained by us as a Data Fiduciary.
🔒 Sensitive Indian Identifiers
Inputs containing UPI payment strings, phone numbers, contact vCards, or PAN/GSTIN numbers never leave your local physical device and are never transmitted to our servers.

Key Compliance Commitments under the DPDP Act, 2023:

  • Notice & Lawful Grounds (Sections 5 & 6): This policy serves as the statutory notice informing you that code generation is executed client-side without collecting digital personal data. Non-essential advertising cookies (Google AdSense) are deployed only in accordance with informed consent standards.
  • Right to Access & Information (Section 11): As a Data Principal, you have the right to obtain confirmation of whether digital personal data is processed. Because we maintain a zero-retention architecture, we hold no personal data records linked to you.
  • Right to Correction & Erasure (Section 12): In-memory barcode data is instantly erased the moment your browser tab or session is terminated.
  • Right of Grievance Redressal (Section 13): You have the right to readily accessible grievance redressal provided by our designated Grievance Officer (see Section 11 for contact details).
  • Right to Nominate (Section 14): You have the right to nominate an individual to exercise your data rights in the event of death or incapacity.
  • Protection of Children (Section 9): We do not track, profile, or undertake behavioral monitoring of children, nor do we serve targeted advertising directed towards minors.
⚖️ Information Technology Act, 2000 (SPDI Rules)
Universal Code Studio implements comprehensive reasonable security practices and procedures pursuant to Section 43A of the IT Act, 2000 and Rule 8 of the SPDI Rules, 2011, ensuring complete protection of client-side operations against unauthorized access, loss, or tampering.
05

EU & UK GDPR Compliance

For individuals residing in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom, our processing activities comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act 2018:

  • Lawful Basis (Article 6): Because your barcode payloads are processed solely in local browser memory and never collected, we do not require a processing basis for payload data. For anonymous website telemetry and advertising cookies, our basis is Consent (where affirmatively provided) or Legitimate Interest for essential security operations.
  • Data Minimization (Article 5): We practice absolute data minimization by collecting zero personal identification data.
  • Data Subject Rights (Articles 15–22): You have the right to access, rectify, or erase personal data. Because we do not store your name, email, IP address logs, or barcode payloads in any database, we hold no identifiable records that can be linked to your identity.
06

California Consumer Privacy (CCPA & CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents are entitled to specific disclosures regarding personal information:

📢 "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" Notice
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or barcode contents to any data broker or commercial third party. We do not disclose sensitive personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising without your consent.

California consumers have the right to request information regarding data practices and to exercise privacy rights without experiencing discriminatory treatment.

07

Children's Privacy (COPPA & DPDPA Section 9)

Universal Code Studio is a general audience developer and business utility. We do not knowingly target, solicit, or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (under US COPPA) or under the age of 18 (under India DPDP Act Section 9). Because no personal data is collected or retained from any user, our services comply fully with global child protection statutes.

08

GS1 Commercial Barcode Notice & Legal Disclaimer

⚠️ Mandatory Commercial Barcode Notice (EAN-13, UPC-A, ITF-14)
This application generates mathematically valid barcode graphics based on standard open international symbology specifications (ISO/IEC 15420, ISO/IEC 15417, and GS1 General Specifications).

However, generating an EAN or UPC barcode graphic through this free utility DOES NOT grant legal ownership, product licensing, or international authorization to assign that number to commercial retail products.

Legitimate Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), company prefixes, and retail barcodes must be officially licensed through GS1 (GS1.org) or an authorized international barcode registry. Using unassigned or duplicate numbers on retail products may result in immediate rejection by retailers, point-of-sale collisions, and commercial liability.
09

Pre-Print Verification & Quality Notice

Barcode readability is influenced by several external factors beyond digital graphic generation, including printer DPI resolution, thermal head wear, substrate/paper finish, contrast ratio, ink bleed, and scanning hardware optics.

🛑 Pre-Flight Test Proof Requirement
Always produce a physical test proof and verify scanning with an actual handheld barcode scanner or smartphone camera prior to mass printing labels, packaging, or marketing collateral.

Universal Code Studio, its authors, and contributors assume no liability for misprinted packaging, failed retail scans, or manufacturing delays resulting from unverified barcode artwork.
10

Open-Source Software & Licensing Attribution

Universal Code Studio proudly leverages high-performance, battle-tested open-source libraries:

  • bwip-js (Barcode Writer in Pure JavaScript) — Copyright © Mark Warren. Licensed under the MIT License. Powers 50+ 1D linear, 2D matrix (Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417), and postal barcode standards.
